Oh So Pretty: Punk in Print 1976-1980 - Exhibition

Oh So Pretty: Punk in Print 1976-1980

Exhibition

This exhibition took place at village book shop. The content was different original prints collected by Rick Poynor.

I was particularly intrigued by this work as I was interested in looking more at punk culture and prints. This was the perfect opportunity to explore and understand this further.

It was really insightful to see this exhibition. There are very rare times where prints like this can be seen up close so to take the opportunity to do so was something I really wanted to see.

The exhibition is small which made this even more interesting, there was no choice but to see the prints up close which was interesting and provided the opportunity to see the imperfections and the details of the aged prints, the most of them had been kept in really good condition however some had a few rips, this definitely made them much more impactful when viewing them.

These prints give great insight into the time they were created in, the type and the content are all reflective of this and make this exhibition immersive in the amount on the show. The diversity in the content and the many different ways they are created shows what design in the seventies and eighties was like.

I think it's important to be aware of past design and how it impacts current design, how they were printed, what purpose and how successful they were. A lot of these prints are still successful to this day.
