Internship advice - via instagram and twitter

I like to be engaged on social media and current events within creative industries and such others.

This particular post by Mira really stood out to me as it tackles the issue of internships which currently I am struggling to tackle in how to approach.

"I get a load of emails from students applying to Kohl. Their most common mistake, that takes them out of the running is their focus on what their time at the studio might do for their own professional growth.

A studio doesn't necessarily care about a potential employees growth unless the studio also gets some kind of benefit from having the employee. While it's not wrong to talk about this it shows some kind of entitlement. If I wrote to clients that way they wouldn't care.

Imagine writing to a client, " I would love to work with your brand, as I think it will look good in my folio" No client would care. What do they get from working with you? Why spend money on having you over? (Clients, as well as studios, pay you to work, right?) It isn't charity.

So some pointers speak about why you like the studio's approach. The more in-depth you are, the better. (e.g. I like that you push brands to be more risky) Speak about what you can offer the studio. (I think my research skills could be put to good use for a project like ....).

Take the focus off of yourself alone, rather put the focus on the synergy, the skills you're great at on offer for the studio and what the studio already does.

Some other tips put on Instagram which were helpful to me
