Studio Brief 02 Creative Presence - Research

Identifying a range of studios and individuals which relate to my interest as a creative student informing my  individual practice .

The question of who do I want to talk to and how do I get in contact with them is answered within this research and  looking at the different approaches and what would be the most effective in gaining a response and  what would make me stand out against other competitors who might also be contacting them in the same interest.

Skinny Dip

Located: London

What do they do?

Sell a very large range of products, from bags, phone cases, gifts, accessories beauty products etc.

Background

Theres no about page so its hard to know how the brand came to be what it is. They are very bold in what they create so possibly they allow for that to speak for itself. It took a while to find but I managed to find out about the origins of Skinny dip.

The company was formed in 2011 by Lewis Blitz, James & Richard Gold. They received a £120,000 investment when pitching their idea to Dragons Den. Currently they supply Debenhams, Next, Republic, River Island, Harvey Nichols and Tesco with a range of accessories.

They are currently looking at hiring a range of creative roles, including a graphic designers.

Their online identity is simple and understated but remains clean and consise in their information. The products are bright so the branding being simple makes sense.

Considering this is a large studio/production company the communication will be a lot more difficult.

What do they do?

Theres not one specific thing they do (which is great)Their tag line is "Connoisseurs of make believe" which really sums up what they do. They create ad campaigns, editorial designs, set designs,

Background:

Visiting their studio last year was really eye opening.

I'd always perceived working creatively as being a very different experience. Until you actually look around somewhere its hard to know what they actually are like. They were very welcoming, there was a very calm vibe. Their unique approach to design was really interesting and fresh, there

Their origin story is what was really interesting. There wasn't a specific plan of what to do or create. As of now personally I'm experiencing this, not knowing where to go with my practice after graduating. I think it would be really eyeopening to get a one on one talk with them at some point.

Kate Moross

Her attitude towards creativity is really refreshing, its punk, and I really like that in art. Its something I strive to have within my own work. I always look to her work or listen to one of her many talks to feel inspired. She's bold and unapologetic with her work, and also really real and relatable in her approach. You always know when you're looking at her work, theres a really strong brand with a lot of personality.
